First Responder Sleep Recovery at Denver 911 Communications

Written by Denver 911 Health & Wellness Coordinator, Jessica Tresch:

“After an incredible success early this year, Director Dameron has invited first responder sleep specialist Jacqueline Toomey back for more! Jacqueline and husband (Denver Firefighter) Sean Toomey founded AXS Wellness together to help tackle the first responder sleep epidemic. This is an internationally taught program specifically designed for us!

Jacqueline uses trauma informed, science backed research from Harvard University, famous sleep scientist Dr. Matthew Walker, and the thousands year old practice of yoga nidra. Don't be concerned when you hear "yoga", this is very accessible to all levels of skill and preference. Jacqueline is very adept at ensuring your comfort throughout the class.

This class was born from the desire to train first responders how to rest and recover, even when sleep isn't possible. They won't tell you to go to bed at the same time every night, because they know that's not how our lives work! They WILL tell you how to make realistic, effective, and easy changes to make the sleep you do get much more restful. This is open to all employees.”

Train the Trainer: Trauma Informed Yoga Nidra Certification Program L1 (Level 1)

Please inquire about the opportunity to receive an in depth certification program to guide first responders in the Sleep Recovery Practice, rooted in the Trauma Informed Yoga Nidra Method. Trauma Informed Yoga Nidra is a meditation based method of restoration, studied and proven to alleviate the symptoms of anxiety, depression, Post Traumatic Stress and sleep disorders. Yoga Nidra is an ancient method of mediation known as “yogic sleep”. The trauma informed approach delivers this method in such a way that the languaging and experience does not retrigger latent or active trauma symptoms and can be a safe and supportive experience for anyone. This is training is designed for peer supporters, clinicians, counselors, therapists, yoga teachers or any person who desires to learn the neuroscience of trauma, and an effective complementary approach to healing various mental and physical conditions.

This training will be hosted at a special lodging site nested at the base of the Sangre De Cristo mountains in Colorado with full access to natural hot springs and healthy, mostly organic meals. Your training experience will be led by the co-founders of the First Responder Sleep Recovery Program: Firefighter Sean Toomey and Sleep Specialist Jacqueline Toomey, and supported with a team of Trauma Informed Yoga Nidra Specialists who have backgrounds in psychotherapy, somatic healing and counseling.
